For the first time, we’re directly measuring childcare hardship in the Poverty Tracker, our collaborative project with Robin Hood. With high childcare costs a pressing concern for New York City families, our survey team designed questions to better capture New Yorkers’ access and affordability issues—specifically, whether families had to stop using a childcare arrangement or cut back on hours, or whether they relied on a child care arrangement they felt was inadequate. Our initial findings, available in our report and featured in The Washington Post, add timely and insightful evidence to the conversation on childcare affordability.
