We are excited to announce that we are building an innovative and easy-to-use digital tool, powered by PRISM—the Policy Reform Impact Simulation Model, that allows users to model policy changes and receive instant results to use in research, policymaking, news analysis, and more. Grounded in our center’s expertise, this interactive policy modeling platform meets a growing need for fast, credible policy analysis.
At the core of this tool is PRISM, built to capture and keep pace with today’s rapidly changing policy environment. Users can see the real-time effect of major policy changes on different population groups and areas of the country.
Our policy tool opens the door to evidence-based policymaking for everyone. Users can run “what if” scenarios and instantly see how policy design affects people’s lives.
Through PRISM, the tool also offers the power to envision an alternative future. It gives the opportunity to design and test new ideas across tax credit, food and housing assistance, and cash policy—with more areas to come. By adjusting real levers such as eligibility, benefit amounts, and more, users learn how policies are constructed and can see instantly how different types of policy changes affect family income, poverty, hardship, and economic inequality within each state and nationwide.
We are grateful to the Gates Foundation for the initial funding to develop the underlying policy simulation model and begin building the interface, and are currently raising funds to support the tool’s full public launch and continued enhancement.
