Columbia School of Social Work room 1109 and online webinar

This webinar launched Child Benefits: A Smart Investment for America's Future by Jane Waldfogel, Compton Foundation Centennial Professor for the Prevention of Children's and Youth Problems at the Columbia University School of Social Work. In this timely and compelling book, Waldfogel explores why the United States—despite being one of the wealthiest nations—has one of the highest child poverty rates among its peers and remains the only high-income country that does not offer a child benefit: regular payments from the government to most or all families with children, not conditioned on parental employment. The event explored the history and impacts of child benefits, examined major policy proposals currently under debate, and presented recommendations for a policy that would deliver the best outcomes for children and families.

Event is hosted in collaboration with the Center on Poverty and Social Policy, Columbia Population Research Center, Columbia School of Social Work, and the SIPA Institute of Global Politics–Women’s Initiative
