Sophie Collyer

Sophie Collyer is an Assistant Professor at the Silberman School of Social Work, Hunter College, City University of New York. Her research focuses on the impact of social policies on poverty, income inequality, and well-being, with a particular focus on tax policy.  She also has a line of research focused on New York City, evaluating how policy decisions affect the well-being of New Yorkers, including reforms such as expansions to the federal and state Child Tax Credit, housing protections, and rent stabilization. Prior to joining the Silberman faculty, she was Research Director at the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at Columbia University. She holds a dual MPA/MSW from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and School of Social Work and completed a PhD with concentrations in Social Policy and Economics from Columbia’s School of Social Work.
