The Center on Poverty and Social Policy hosted its annual conference, featuring our latest poverty research on income support amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Keynote:
Our keynote speaker, Representative Rosa DeLauro, spoke on the COVID-19 federal response and her work with colleagues on income support for the American people, including championing the expansion of the Child Tax Credit. A forum followed, moderated by Lola Fadulu of The New York Times, where CPSP researchers explained how our system is responding to the current pandemic, presented the potential impacts on poverty rates in the United States, and discussed policy solutions that have arisen from the crisis, as well as, for the future.

Topics included forecasting poverty rates (Zachary Parolin, postdoctoral research scientist), evaluating the federal response and who is left out (Megan A. Curran, postdoctoral research scientist), impact of crisis on New Yorkers (Sophie Collyer, research director), paid sick leave (Jane Waldfogel, Columbia Population Research Center co-director), and guaranteed income (Irwin Garfinkel, center co-director).
